Horizontal/Vertical (3D) Bone and Soft Tissue Grafting – From Preparing the Site to Treating Peri – Implantitis

Over 50% of dental implant cases require bone augmentation. Regeneration of bone, especially, vertical and/or 3-dimensional bone regeneration is technically very difficult, clinically unpredictable and requires precise planning and execution. Similarly soft tissue regeneration, be it around teeth or dental implants, can be a daunting dental procedure. Lack of optimal bone and soft tissue volume may predispose dental implants to implant complications and/or failure. In this lecture we will look at the surgical management of some challenging cases through soft and hard tissue grafting to either prepare the site for implant therapy or treat peri-implantitis.

Objectives:

  • Simplify the scientific literature – connect it with real life private practice
  • Unravel gingival recession around teeth and implants – why it happens, how to fix it!
  • Understand the need for optimal bone around implants – how much is necessary and how to get it
  • Understand the thought process in the selection of surgical techniques
  • Understand the potential risks and challenges when performing hard and soft tissue grafting
  • See how some challenging cases are managed through the use of biomaterials and autogenous tissue – bone and soft tissue grafting
  • Get an overview of 3D bone regeneration, soft tissue regeneration (implant therapy) and a combination of both (perio therapy for teeth)
